Medicaid Values PeopleAre you a Direct Support Professional? Do you work with Direct Support Professionals? If so, take just five minutes now to educate Congressional candidates who want your vote!

The hottest issue in virtually every campaign for federal office is how to control the nation’s budget deficit. This issue has direct relevance to Medicaid, the primary source of federal funding for home and community-based services for people with disabilities—and vital jobs for the people that support them. It is imperative that all candidates understand the importance of Medicaid funding for individuals with disabilities and Direct Support Professionals.

Please join DSPs from around the country in sending a loud message that MEDICAID VALUES PEOPLE. Tell them that the federal Medicaid program is crucial for ensuring that people with intellectual, developmental and other significant disabilities are able to live and work in communities of their choice, as opposed to costly, segregated institutions.

As a DSP, your voice matters in this election. The candidates, as well as current members of Congress who are not currently up for election this fall, will listen to you, especially if they get the same message from many DSPs. Each message they receive will help emphasize to them how important DSPs are within the community—and how many of you there are!

Do not sit on the sidelines and assume others will send the message. Celebrate Direct Support Professional Recognition Week by flooding candidates for office with the messages from DSPs that Medicaid Values People!

We have set up ANCOR’s Action Center to make it really easy for you to email the candidates that want to represent you. All you have to do is enter your name and address to send the message we have already written. Feel free to personalize the message if you have the time, but most importantly, please send the email today!
